Everything you need to know about the Netherland Dwarf Rabbit breed

The Netherland Dwarf is a very popular breed of rabbit as it’s one of the smallest breeds. They usually weigh around 1-1.5kg but they can even be less than 1kg. They were first bred in the Netherlands in the early 1900s.

Appearance

They are distinctive firstly by their size, they are tiny little potatoes. They have very distinctive small upright ears and are brachycephalic. This means they have a short flat face. They come in a huge range of different colours and different markings.

Behaviour

The behaviour of any rabbit will vary depending on their history which must always be considered. With good husbandry, Netherland Dwarves can be very active and curious rabbits, but they can also be very bossy for their size!

Health

Health of any rabbit will depend on their history and breeding. Netherland Dwarves can be prone to a few health issues due to their conformation. Their flat blocky faces, or brachycephalic faces, can lead to issues with their teeth and their eyes.
