Can you help us find a new home?

Our rescue has been on the same plot of land for over 20 years, sadly our time here is coming to an end as the land is now earmarked for property development and we could be evicted at any time.

We are urgently looking to buy a new plot of at least a 1/3rd acre to secure the rescue’s future. We are looking to spend around £120,000, can you help us raise funds for a deposit?

Our Current Home

We currently reside on a 1/3rd acre field in a village just outside of Royston, Hertfordshire. We have no electricity and no running water. We are limited to how many visitors we have on site so are not able to host any kind of fundraisers or open days at our rescue.

While our rabbits all have large RWAF sized dog kennels with grazing areas, and spacious aviaries on paving, these are hard work to maintain, especially during cold wet winters.

Our Dream

We are looking to buy a plot of land to build a purpose built rescue to ensure we’re able to rescue and rehabilitate rabbits for as long as they need us.

We are looking for at least a 1/3rd acre plot within about a 40 min drive from our current location in Royston, Hertfordshire. It needs to have some hard standing, have easy access to a road, have no issues with single story structures being erected and at least have water on site.

We would love to have:

• Electricity – so we can have little luxuries such as a microwave for heat pads and lights instead of head torches in the winter.
• Running water – it’s extremely hard work bringing water from off site to the rescue! And hot water is only via a gas camping stove. We dream of running water, maybe even running hot water.
• Easy access – we are currently quite tucked away, we are looking for a plot of land with easy access to a road and hard standing for parking spaces.
• Purpose built buildings – we would like to have several purpose built single story barns or buildings which provide secure, weather proofed homes for our rabbits which are also easy to clean and disinfect. We would love specialised buildings for bonding, rabbits needing veterinary care and holiday boarding.
• A toilet – we currently have just one portaloo, we would love to have proper plumbing and a normal toilet and wash up area for our hard-working staff and volunteers.
• More facilities – speaking of our staff and volunteers, we would love to have more areas for them to sit and enjoy a cup of tea and have a proper break. Having a few areas to sit both indoors and outdoors would be beneficial for potential adoptees too, so we can sit down together and discuss adoption.
• Muck heap composting area – we currently have all our waste taken away in a skip which costs each month, we would love to be able to turn our rabbit waste hay and poops into amazing compost which we can sell locally.
• Poly tunnel and growing area – we would love to have more space to grow our own vegetables, forage and herbs to treat our rabbits.
